Making Quarter Square Triangles
A quick pieced method is:
- Cut out two squares from the two different fabrics, your required size and add 3cm (1 1/4") to this size e.g. for a finished size 15cm (6") square you need to cut out a 18cm (7 1/4") square.
- Place them right sides together and press into place and pin.
- Draw a line with a marking pen, pencil or chalk along both diagonals from the top corner to the bottom corner.

- Stitch your seam allowance to the left of the line (as marked as A) and when you reach the centre lift the thread over and stitch to the right of the line (as marked as B). Repeat along the other diagonal and cut along the diagonal lines.
- Stitch your seam allowance to the left of the line (as marked as A) and when you reach the centre lift the thread over and stitch to the right of the line (as marked as B). Repeat along the other diagonal and cut along the diagonal lines.
Make Quarter Square Triangles
- Press seam allowances to different sides of each quarter open and this makes four pieces.
- Stitch two quarter pieces together to make a half square, then stitch the two halves together to make a full square of four smaller squares.
