Finishing a Quilt with Self-binding.
This technique is a simple way to bind your quilt using the backing fabric. You need to cut you backing fabric so it is larger than the quilt top to ensure it will turn over the thickness of the wadding and include a seam allowance.
Once the quilt top has been quilted:
- Trim the wadding and top fabric if necessary.
- Trim the corners to create a mitred effect to remove any excess of bulk of fabric.
- Fold in the raw edge of the backing fabric to your seam allowance and press.
- Fold over onto the quilt top, pin and slipstitch in place with matching thread or machine stitch starting on a side or bottom away from a corner.
